Our ratings system

Fordyce Creek

Rubicon Area Forecast

Location: The trail begins near Eagle Lakes. Take Interstate 80 to Eagle Lakes Road. Follow Eagles lake road on the East bound side of freeway. Follow the Eagle Lakes signs about 3 miles from the Interstate and on your right hand side you will find the Fordyce Creek trail head. It should have a sign labeled OHV route. When you reach the end of the trail at Summit City follow Meadow Lake Road to Henness Pass Road, follow it to Jackson Meadows Road. Take Jackson Meadows Road East to HWY 89. Take 89 South to Interstate 80.

Description: This trail is one of the three trails the Annual Sierra Trek is run on. This being the short wheel base trail and most difficult. Some people feel this trail is more difficult then the Rubicon. There are several deep water crossings, in fact during the Sierra Trek P.G.& E. slows the water flow for the event. There all no less the five areas which can be a challenge to climb, labeled in the Sierra Trek as Winch hills 1 through 5. This trail is definitely only for experienced drivers. Most people take around 4 to 6 hours to reach Summit City at Meadow Lake.

Recommended equipment: A lifted, locked short wheel base vehicle with skid plates, rocker guards, and tow hooks and straps are a must. It is highly recommended that someone in your group have a winch. The less the vehicle is equipped the more work and damage you can expect.

Accommodations: Several campsites and campgrounds are in the area. Dispersed camping is available, but camps must be more than 100 feet from water or meadows. Campfire permits are required.
