Hangman's Bridge, 1.5 mi. south of Markleeville on Hwy. 89

Hangman's Bridge is a renowned put-in for rafters. The East Carson Canyon has hot springs, cliffs and mixed conifer forests. Takeout for this overnight or day trip is before the dam off Hwy. 395 south of Gardnerville. Kayakers and adventurous rafters put in at several spots upriver from Hangman's, making for more exhilarating runs and less hassle with the car-shuttle. Several white-water chutes can be spotted from the highway along the upper section—tailor made for kayakers by the flood of 1998. A number of outfitters service this river.
